Lane Cormick and Tony Garifalakis | OK Moses!
Gallery Two
16 August – 3 September 2011
Opening night Tuesday 16 August, 6pm-8pm
OK Moses! is the second collaborative exhibition by Lane Cormick and Tony Garifalakis.
Utilising performance, sculpture, two – dimensional works and an intuitive approach to the idea of collaboration, the exhibition is part of an ongoing attempt by the artists to capture and highlight the points at which their respective practices intersect.
Lane Cormick is an artist that has pursued an ‘open ended’ process and performance-based practice since graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1998. Having previously undertaken a Gertrude Contemporary studio residency and Australia Council studio residency in Los Angeles, Cormick has exhibited across Australia and internationally since 2000. At the heart of Cormick’s practice is an investigation of risk and technique. Realising early in his career that he had no “skills” as an artist, Cormick created for himself impossible tasks – practices and processes that he could in no way complete, or competently undertake. The rationale behind this decision is at once both strategic and naive; Cormick is a jack-of-all-trades, yet master of none.
